Recap

Report by: Damien Conneely

In our second game of the day we had the Gaels vs Warriors facing off in what turned out to be a titanic battle, with some murmurs in the stands afterwards saying it was one of the most exciting mens game in Winterleague history.

The game started off with a ferocious pace with physical encounters including Mickaël Herbelin, Loris Langlois getting familiar with each other and Luke Anderson and William Alexis throwing their weight around. Scores were coming from all areas of the pitch with newly appointed Gaels captain Dave ‘Galway’s great’ Glynn coming forward for some vital scores along with Keith Pine, the latter raising the green flag coming into the final minutes of the half.

With the half time oranges over with it was much the same in the 2nd half, with both teams trading scores with the immovable object Ciaran ‘poacher’ Walsh hitting some fine scores and finding the back of the net on numerous occasions, along with Patrick Eefting getting some scores of his own proving you couldn’t pick a winner, it was neck and neck!

With the last few minutes of the game the Gaels looked to have edged in front with a goal but a goal of their own from Tony ‘El Presidente’ Cunningham tied it up.

So with a sideline kick to win the game Neil ‘DeNiro’ O’Brien showed nerves of steel to slot it over for the win!

Warriors can take some solace in the fact that 9 out of their 12 players on the night got on the scoresheet.

What a start, Gaels win 5-16 to 5-15.
