Recap

Report by: Damien Conneely

In the final game of the night we saw a first for the league, with the newly established Concordia Warriors ladies taking on the Verdun Vikings ladies. It’s testament to the hard work behind the scenes that we are able to say that we now have 4 ladies Winter Superleague teams.

You could be forgiven for thinking that the game might be a little one sided as Vikings take on the debutantes but you’d be wrong. Warriors putting it up to the Vikings with a strong defensive display from Erika Ikonomopoulos, Julie Houle, Chelsea Lacasse Gobeille, and Anick Major. But as the half wore on with great link up play between Eimear O’Leary-Barrett and Rachel ‘lefty’ Sparks the Vikings took a formidable lead into the half time break.

Captain Julie Morrice rallied the troops at the interval and it seemed to work as the Warriors started out strong with Jasmine Akkermans raising the green flag on numerous occasions and with good hand passing by Tea Jovanovic enabling Audrey Taillefer to get on the score board. But with the experience of Aoife Mchale showing, getting some key scores the Vikings pushed ahead and would not be caught.

Vikings with the W but some things to ponder for sure for the South westerners.
Lots of positives for the Warriors first game together who are only going to improve as the league progresses.

Verdun Vikings 6-11 to Concordia Warriors 3-7.
