Recap

Report by: Annie Gaumond

In our first game of the night, the Griffintown Gaels ladies faced off against the ladies of the Verdun Vikings. With a great mix of new faces and old, this week’s match was full of enthusiasm and excitement.

The game started off with a bang, with new draft Joanna Rutkowska dominating the throw in. Rachel Sparks, a Viking’s Senior, was quick to the ball, scoring an incredible 9 points overall, but the Gaels’ star defense-woman, Paris Williams, did not make it an easy job.

As usual, Viking’s goalie Brandy Byrd stopped almost every shot that was taken on her with ease; however, Mariette Parrod’s sniper-like accuracy was working overtime with an impressive 6 points, and 2 goals overall. On the other end of the pitch, Jen Dumais did an amazing job acting as stand-in keeper for the Gaels.

Due to the newest winter-league rule which does not allow substitute players to score points or goals, the Gaels’ subs worked hard to set up some great plays, which in the end gave them the win.

With such a fierce and skillful game this early on in the season, we’re sure to be in for an incredible ladies’ winter league!
