Recap

Match Report by: Niamh Devaney.

Week Three of the Summer Superleague and big problems are already emerging for the Ladies
Griffintown Gaels. In a spectacularly low turnout, only four Gaels players were available to play
against the Goose Village Blackrocks. While the Gaels were reinforced by Substitutes from the
Verdun Vikings, it is key to note that only Gaels players are eligible to score. This left Annie
Gaumond, Julie Morrice, Michelle Lee and Paris Williams the responsibility of scoring on the night.
No simple task when facing the Blackrocks tight and powerful defence. And even more problematic
when backs are forced to play forward and vice versa to put eligible scorers in the appropriate
positions.
The Gaels fought bravely but were out manoeuvred and overpowered in the backs as Jenn Dumais
scored an incredible six goals! Her success was in part thanks to Karlie Kennedy who owned mid-field
for the majority of the game and kept feeding her forwards inch perfect passes. Tiphaine Levrat also
added to the tally with a nice point. Sdynie Baynes earned herself MVP for the Rocks thanks to her
unforgiving defence of their goal. She proved to be a constant headache for the attacking Gaels. This
pressure resulted in quite a few wides for the side but Guamond, Lee and Morrice all managed to
put points on the scoreboard.
Julie Morrice, usually a mid-fielder, scored three skilful points and was selected as the Gaels MVP.
They battled to the end but ultimately were overwhelmed by the powerful Blackrocks.
The final score was Gaels (1-6) Blackrocks (6-1)
