Recap

In the final game in the prestigious Letendre College before we head back down the 15 to Vanier we saw
the Verdun Vikings men take on the Griffintown Gaels men.
The Vikings, looking for a strong performance to start their defence of the title in which they won the
previous summer struggled. Gaels buoyed by a comprehensive victory the week before took it to the
defending champs. Clinical finishing from the boot of John Mcavoy and Paul Ryan settled them into the
game nicely.
But the Vikings, always a dangerous prospect when the likes of Ronan Shaughnessy and Kevin
Hughes are on the field duly obliged, with scores of their own, with the green flag been raised on more
than one occasion. With new recruits Patrick Bibeau and Corey Crawford impressing in their first Gaelic
football match, the former scoring a precise goal low and hard to the Gaels net. The Vikings going in at
the break with a slight advantage.
It seems in games likes these goals help win matches. Vikings registering second half goals from captain
Ronan Corbett and Simon Chamberland pushing them into a lead in which they wouldn’t relinquish.
Although the Gaels came up the other end with some fine points from Conor Farrell, John Lawless and
Dave Glynn it seemed the green flag needed to be raised on more than than the 2 occasions to get the
win.
Final score on the night saw the Vikings win by 12pts.
8-3 to 2-9.
