Winter Superleague 2022: Week Three Results

Week three of the superleague brought us three entertaining games, one of which was a history making inaugural Camogie superleague game.
The opening game was the men’s Verdun Vikings taking on the Goose Village Blackrocks, as with their first game of the season the Vikings started slow, which gave the Blackrocks a lead they never surrendered. Despite a spirited performance in the ten minutes before and after half time, the Vikings could never quite take back control of the game and it finished with a comfortable eleven-point victory.
The middle event of the day was the very first camogie match between PSC Cu Chulainn and N.D.G. Na Fianna Rouges. Both sides started strong, but it was the rouges who got and kept the upper hand. The Cus picked up the pace in the second half, but the damage had already been done and Rouges were the comfortable winners by a margin of twenty-five points.
And finally, we had a must win game for the Verdun Vikings in the ladies’ Football where they lined out against the Goose Village Blackrocks. A narrow loss to the Gaels meant the Vikings needed to win here to stand a chance of getting into the finals, whereas the Blackrocks could see their place secured with a win of their own. The Blackrocks started strong and made some initial gains before being slowly pulled back by the Vikings, but early in the second half the Blackrocks took the game by the scruff of the neck and in a ten-minute period stayed camped in the Vikings half, building up a lead that the Vikings spent the rest of the game chasing. It wasn’t to be, and in the end the Blackrocks ran out as winners by nineteen points.

Winter Superleague 2022: Week Three

Week three of the superleague sees men and ladies football action, as well as the inaugural game of our camogie league. All of this will be happening this Saturday, the 12th of March at the Concordia Stinger Dome, starting at 6pm.
Our opening fixture is the first game in the second round of men’s fixtures, with the Verdun Vikings looking to book their passage to the finals with their second win in as many weeks. Standing in their way are the Goose Village Blackrocks, who will be looking to reset and regroup after stumbling in their opening game. This should be a fantastic fixture, with these sides knowing how much is at stake here, it’ll be well worth watching.
In the middle we’ll have our very first Camogie fixture. Like the hurling, this will be a best of three series with N.D.G. Na Fianna Rouges taking on PSC Cu Chulainn, and like the hurling both sides will be eager to set the tone for the rest of the series with a strong start here. We can expect fast paced action and plenty of scores as this long-awaited event finally gets under way.
And finally, closing out another superleague week is the first fixture of round two of the ladies’ fixtures. Mirroring their male counterparts, it’ll also be the Verdun Vikings facing off against the Goose Village Blackrocks. In a reversal of that first fixture, it’s the Vikings hoping to thwart the Blackrocks goal of booking an early ticket to the finals, with a quick return to form after last weeks false start. Meanwhile the Blackrocks will be keen to put this to bed, so expect them to come out swinging. This should make for a fantastic last fixture to round out the day. We’re looking forward to seeing you there.
