• 8pm – Concordia Warriors (Men’s) vs Goose Village Blackrocks (Men’s)

Only three days since we were all out in Vanier, we’ll all brave the summer heat and humidity again as Na Fianna Rouges try to keep their hopes of making the hurling finals alive, and the Blackrocks look to narrow the gap at the top of the men’s football table.

Fist up, we have small ball action as the St Henri Harps take on N.D.G. Na Fianna Rouges. The Harps had until just a few days ago looked invincible, but on a sweltering Friday night in Vanier, PSC Cu Chulainn showed that even gods can bleed taking a well deserved two points. The Harps are still on course to qualify for the finals, they just need one more win. And with the benefit of a few days to rest and regroup, the Harps must surely fancy themselves to make amends and do the business here. For na Fianna Friday night was a mixed blessing, it showed that the harps can be beaten, but it also was PSC throwing down the gauntlet and announcing that if the Rouges want that place in the final they’ll have to go through PSC to get it. Now they need to work a little magic of their own and deliver their half of a one-two punch on the Harps to keep themselves in the race for the finals. With all these thoughts going through the player’s heads we can expect the battling to be ferocious and the drama at it’s highest as these two sides bring us what is sure to be a match to remember.

And following on from that we have the Concordia Warriors lining out opposite the Goose Village Blackrocks in the men’s football. The Warriors will come into this knowing that time is running out if they are to mount a challenge on second place. Currently languishing at the bottom of the table, but only four points behind their opponents tonight, who currently are sitting in second. A win here would let them leapfrog the Verdun Vikings in third and land them right on the Blackrock’s heels, ready to push them aside. It’s a tall order though, as the last time these sides met the Blackrocks came out well ahead, with a twenty one point victory, and indeed the Warriors haven’t tasted victory since their first game of the season. But if ever there was a time for a reversal of fortunes, then it’s now, and the Warriors must surely feel that their time is due. For the Blackrocks, this game is all about keeping the pressure on the Griffintown Gaels, currently three points ahead in first place. A slip up here will probably not be disastrous, in terms of making the men’s football finals, but it would pretty much put an end to any thoughts of taking first place in the league. But with their eyes so focused on a team not on the field, do the Blackrocks run the risk of being blindsided on it? Come and join us in Vanier as we end the evening on what is sure to be a physical and intense game as two fine sides go all out in search of a much needed win.

For the second time in five days we’re back to Vanier as the chase for a place finals continues in the ladies’ football with the Gaels and the Blackrocks both looking to put one over the other, and in hurling PSC look to take an unlikely scalp as they face off against on the high flying Harps.

Starting things off, we have the Griffintown Gaels lining out against the Goose Village Blackrocks in the ladies’ football. The way this ladies’ season is shaping up, the question of who joins the Verdun Vikings in the final looks like it’ll come down to who comes out ahead across all the Rocks V Gaels matches. As it stands, it’s one game apiece – so both sides will know that the team that can take the two points here will put themselves in a strong position to claim that second final spot. Previous fixtures between these two sides have been very closely fought affairs, with both teams giving as good as they get, so it’s very likely that this game will turn on the smallest of things: a misplaced pass, a player bursting through and not being picked up, any one of them could mean the difference between victory and defeat. So join us in Vanier where we will see which of these two teams can take the pressure, and who will buckle. It should be a fantastic game and another exciting chapter in the summer superleague

Taking us into the weekend, we have small ball action as current table toppers, the St Henri Harps take on PSC Cu Chulainn who are playing their second game this week. On Monday PSC were taken by surprise as they failed to contain a resurgent N.D.G. Na Fianna Rouges, who also manged to depose them from the number two spot. With only a few days to regroup and a much tougher task ahead of them this time, this game will be a true test of the character of PSC as they’ll need to dig deep and find something special if they’re to take two points and return to the second place spot. The Harps have been asking questions that the rest of the league have been unable to answer since the start of the summer, and they show no signs of stopping now. A win here puts them into the final no matter what happens, and they’ll surely know that coming into this, and we can expect them to be as ruthless and driven as we’ve ever seen them. Will the Harps finish booking their place to the final or with PSC finally find a response and take two much deserved points from a team that’s given up nothing so far? Join us for what will undoubtedly be a blistering game of hurling, and a fine end to the week.

This Monday at Vanier we have Men’s football and Hurling, as the Verdun Vikings look to build on last weeks success by taking two points from the Griffintown Gaels and N.D.G. Na Fianna Rouges are still in search of their first win of the season as they go up against PSC Cu Chulainn.

First up, the Verdun Vikings line out against the Griffintown Gaels as the men’s football season moves into its second half. A win here with a score difference of greater than two points would move the Vikings into second place, a far cry from where they were before last week’s game. After so many false starts and near misses, the Vikings will surely feel that their season is about to come good, and a strong performance here would be the perfect way for them to reassert themselves as potential finalists. The Gaels have been enjoying a prolonged spell of good form since their one point loss in their opening game, and have been taking teams apart with ease. Indeed the last time these two sides met the Gaels ran out comfortable winners with a seventeen point margin, and they will be hoping to stop any Vikings resurgence in its tracks with a similar performance. Both sides have a great opportunity here, the Vikings’ season may very well rest on the result of this game, whereas the Gaels will look to reduce their potential pool of challengers by one and move a step closer to the finals at the same time. All of which should make for a fantastic game from start to finish.

And seeing things out for the evening will be PSC Cu Chulainn battling against N.D.G. Na Fianna Rouges in the hurling. With the St Henri Harps being the team to beat this summer, PSC will need to take two points here if they’re to keep pace with the current leaders, and they’ll be looking back to the last meeting between these two sides for inspiration, where a fine display from PSC saw them win with an eight point margin. And as bad as PSC need a win to keep up at the top, Na Fianna are in a much more dire need of a win here before their season is beyond salvaging. Currently at zero wins in three games in spite of spirited performances, the rouges will need to really dig deep and pull out something special here, or they’ll be looking at a very steep mountain to climb. Will the Rouges pull out a much needed win, or are PSC going to brush them aside and keep pressure on the Harps? Join us down in Vanier for what ought to be an intense game of Hurling.
