Summer Superleague 2018: Week 7

Week Seven Fixtures
Week Seven Fixtures

Week seven sees the return fixtures from all the way back in week two of the Superleague, as the men’s teams line up for what promises to be another set of hard fought games.

The opening fixture sees the Montreal City Blues face off against the Verdun Vikings. The Vikings are currently undefeated in the Summer Superleague and will look to keep this streak alive with a performance similar to the one they gave when these teams last met. However the Blues won’t be happy to give a repeat performance, and they’re not the same team that first took to the field all those weeks ago. And with a win against the Blackrocks putting them just behind the second place Gaels on score difference a strong performance here could see them leap into second, and keep the pressure on Vikings themselves.

Following what promises to be a tense and tight affair, the Griffintown Gaels will line up opposite the Goose Village Blackrocks.
The Gaels and Rocks share two points apiece, but the score difference is much wider than between the Gaels and Blues. This makes things straightforward for the Rocks, they need a win here. As they took both points the last time these sides met, expect them come out strong and to give no quarter. The Gaels for their part will be aware that a decisive win here would go a long way to cementing their place in the final at the end of the summer, so they’ll be in no mood for mercy. Expect a fierce clash between two well matched sides.

Both these fixtures are on Monday the 9th of July at the Vanier College

Summer Superleague 2018: Week 6 – Friday Fixtures

Week Six, Friday Fixtures

The temperatures are high, and so are the stakes in the second set of fixtures for week six of the Summer Superleague.

We’re approaching the midway point of the summer season, and the league tables are starting to take shape, but nothing is set in stone yet – which will be a comfort to both sides in our first Friday fixture, which sees the Goose Village Blackrocks facing off against the Griffintown Gaels in ladies’ football.

These teams are tied on points, with scoring difference keeping the Blackrocks in first place. The Gaels will be eager to claim the top spot for themselves, as well as avenging a ten point defeat at the hands of the Blackrocks earlier in the season. With a nine points scoring difference and a game in hand, the Blackrocks have the advantage going into this game, and would expect to win it, but they would need to be wary of complacency as the Gaels will be as unrelenting as the Montreal summer heat. This clash promises to be intense with some of the best Ladies’ players going head to head in an important game.

While the evening may have cooled slightly by the time our second game kicks off, this Hurling fixture will be hot from the get go.

Both the St Henri Harps and N.D.G Na Fianna Rouges will be keenly aware that the winner here will put themselves in the driving seat when it comes to dethroning current table toppers, PSC. Na Fianna won by three points against St Henri in the first hurling game of this season, and will be looking for a repeat of that performance to steady the ship, which has been rocked by back to back losses against PSC Cu Chulainn. St Henri also failed to stop PSC in their last fixture, but it was a close game and with a bit of luck could have easily gone St Henri’s way, so they’ll look to draw on that performance and exact revenge on Na Fianna.

It’s a bit early to be calling this the battle for second place, but neither team will be willing to give an inch as they have one eye on the top of the table, and go into this fixture knowing that a loss here would leave them with a mountain to climb. But as the winter league showed, nothing is ever certain in Hurling.

Both these fixtures are on Friday the 6th of July at the College de Notre Dame

7pm – Goose Village Blackrocks (Ladies) vs Griffintown Gaels (Ladies)
8pm – Na Fianna Rouges vs St Henri Harps

Summer Superleague 2018: Week 6

Week Six Fixtures

In the first set of fixtures for week six of the Summer Superleague sees all four men’s teams in action after a three week break.

The opening game sees the currently unbeaten Verdun Vikings squaring off against Winter Superleague Champions the Goose Village Blackrocks. The last time these sides met it was the Winter Superleague final where the Blackrocks confidently saw off the Vikings. This time the Vikings will be hoping to right that particular wrong, and given their current form, they’ve every chance of doing so. The Blackrocks for their part are currently in third place, but only one points difference and would delight in putting one over on the vikings, a result that could see them go top depending on how the second fixture of the evening shakes out. This will be a tense affair, and although it’s early days the result of this match could well set the tone for the rest of the season.

Following up, Summerleague newcomers Montreal City Blues will meet the last of the old guard, the Griffintown Gaels. The Gaels are still hungry for a win to kickstart their season, and will be looking to what went right for them in their previous matches as a source of inspiration and reflection.
But this might not be enough against a Montreal City Blues side that, after some opening game jitters, took the game by the scruff of the neck against the Blackrocks and will have every intention of doing the same again. Currently second by virtue of points difference and only two points behind the leaders, the Blues would love nothing more than to keep the pressure on the leaders and prove that their last result wasn’t simply luck. Expect a physical game, with both sides looking to prove something.

Both these fixtures are on Monday the 2nd of July at the Vanier College
