Coming up this Monday, the 1st of July at the Vanier College –

• 8pm – Verdun Vikings (Ladies) vs Griffintown Gaels (Ladies)

It’s Canada day, so come join us for the most Canadian things we could think of – Hurling and Gaelic Football!

First up, we have small ball action with the St Henri Harps facing off against N.D.G. Na Fianna Rouges. The harps will be playing their second game in three days, and having seen off a challenge from PSC on Friday night with calm and composure they’re hoping to extend their lead at the top of the table with another win here. The Rouges are in desperate need of a win here, having failed to put points on the board so far this season. That’s not to say that it’s already all over for the Rouges, but they will need to kick off a run of good form if they are to have any hope of reaching the finals. The last time these sides met it was a very close affair with the harps clinching victory by a single point, so both sides will be justified in feeling that they can take this one, and it will be a case of which side wants it more. Will it be the high flying Harps, or will the Rouges comeback start here? Join us at Vanier to find out in what should be a fantastic game.

And to round out the evening, we have a top of the table clash between the Verdun Vikings and the Griffintown Gaels in Ladies’ football. These side have been in fine form this season, and though it’s early days yet, neither side shows any intention of slowing their pace. The Vikings are so far undefeated, and would very much like things to stay that way. A win would move them four points clear of the Gaels with a game in hand, which would be a comfortable buffer for them to maintain and build upon for the rest of the season, and with their form so far the Vikings must surely be feeling confident of that. The Gaels are only two points behind the Vikings so a win here would bring them to level pegging, but still leave the Vikings with that important game in hand. The last time these two teams met was on the opening day of the season, and the Vikings won by a seven point margin but it has been said that the scoreline wasn’t a fair reflection of that game. Now with the benefit of a few more games the Gaels will surely fancy their chances to take two points off the team to beat in the ladies Superleague. Will the runaway Vikings trail roll on, or will the Gaels derail them with a powerful performance? Come down to Vanier and join us as we find out in what is sure to be a riveting game of football.

For our second fixture this week, we have the men’s Vikings attempting to restart their football season after some early misfiring, and in small ball action, PSC look to put themselves clear in a top of the table clash.

First up, the Verdun Vikings tog out against the Goose Village Blackrocks in Men’s football. The Blackrocks missed a chance to go top of the table this past Monday as an on form Gaels side proved to just be too much to handle, but they can bring themselves to level pegging on points if they can manage a win here. And despite not having the long rest period the Vikings have enjoyed, they will surely fancy their chance against a side that’s yet to register a win this season. The Vikings for their part might just be smelling blood in the water, being well rested against a side that’s on their second game in five days certainly puts a point or two in their column for this clash. With the fewest games played so far, the Vikings can simply put the season up to this point behind them and concentrate on making up lost ground. Will the Vikings find their summer form, or stall out again? Are the Blackrocks ready to regain control of their ship, or will this week prove to be a one-two punch? Next, and finally, we have the St Henri Harps taking on PSC Cu Chulainn in the Hurling. Both teams have one win from one game, and it’s the first time they’ve met in the Summer Superleague, so this match is very important to both side. The winner will move two points clear at the top and it will put them in the driving seat for the rest of the league. Both sides conducted themselves admirably against currently third place Na Fianna Rouges in their respective games, but with PSC finding the goals to be more freeflowing that the Harps did that keen attacking frontline might ask questions of the Harps that they will be unable to answer. Or perhaps the Harps will find that PSC’s scant few points in their previous game means that controlling the play from midfield is the key to victory here.
Either way, the winner of this game will find themselves in a very strong, but not unassailable, position for the rest of the season, so expect there to be no quarter asked or given from the throw in to the final puc of the ball.

• 8pm – Griffintown Gaels (Men’s) vs Goose Village Blackrocks (Men’s)

This week sees a Griffintown Gaels vs Goose Village Blackrocks double header as both the men’s and ladies’ teams face off against each other.

First up, the ladies’ football. The Blackrocks are without a win in their first two games, including an opening day defeat to their opponents tonight, but a margin of four points. The season is still in it’s infancy but the Blackrocks will want to return to their winning ways, and sooner rather than later. Victory here will bring them back into the pack and within two points of the current leaders, otherwise they could see themselves up to four points adrift and a mountain left to climb. The high flying Gaels were brought down to earth with a bump last week when they met the Verdun Vikings, and they’ll be looking to put that all behind them now, and right the ship. A repeat of their opening day performance would be just what they need, and would bring them into tied first place, for the time being. Both sides have everything to play for and will fight tooth and nail for every ball – expect a fantastic display to start the evening off.

And rounding out the day we have a top of the table clash in the men’s football. These side last met in the opening game of the men’s season, with the Blackrocks edging out a single point win. This time the Gaels will be looking for a reversal of that result and to put some daylight between themselves and the rest of the pack. The Blackrocks are currently undefeated and would love to keep building that streak, and with another game coming up for them this Friday, a win here would put them in high spirits for their second game. But if they leave too much on the field today, how will that affect their next game?
