Week six of the Superleague falls on July the 4th. While the Americans are celebrating their exploding Christmas, there’ll be fireworks of a different kind in Vanier, as the Verdun Vikings take on the Griffintown Gaels in men’s football and the Verdun Vikings line out against the Goose Village Blackrocks in ladies’ football, starting at 7pm.
First up in men’s football the Vikings are looking for their first win of the season, two narrow losses on the trot might lead to frustration in the Vikings camp, but if there’s a better target to work that frustration out on than the Griffintown Gaels, we’ve not heard of it. Taking points of the Gaels here would put the Vikings right back in the mix. The Gaels will be looking to use this opportunity to extend their lead at the top to four points, and from there hold that spot until the end of the season. It’ll be hard to dislodge them if they can build up that kind of a buffer from the chasing teams.
Next is ladies’ football, the Blackrocks are looking to jump start their season, currently languishing at the bottom of the table, they’d relish the chance to make up some of the distance between them and second placed Verdun Vikings. The Vikings will see last weeks game against the Gaels as an opportunity missed, so this game provides an opportunity to make up ground in their chase of the Gaels, and with the Blackrocks in an unusual slump, this could well be the opening they’ve been looking for.
Both these games promise to be very entertaining; and we hope you will join us for week 6 of the 2022 Summer Superleague
Summer Superleague 2022: Week five
Week five of the Superleague sees ladies’ football and hurling action, starting at 7pm on Monday the 27th of June, at Vanier College.
First up will be ladies’ football, where the Verdun Vikings are looking to clip the wings of the high flying Griffintown Gaels. The Vikings know that a win here would bring them to level pegging with top of the table Gaels. While the Gaels will be looking to continue their winning streak, they’ll go four points clear at the top. A strong position to be in this early in the season.
Next is Hurling, with PSC Cu Chulainn and N.D.G. Na Fianna Rouges meeting for the second time this season. PSC will be looking to take the momentum from their previous game and make it two for two. Na Fianna, it’s a case of forget and reset. This is a golden opportunity to assert themselves over the league, and they’ll want to grab it with both hands.
Both these games promise to be very entertaining; we hope you will join us for week 5 of the 2022 Summer Superleague
