Winter Superleague 2022: Week Six

Week six of the superleague sees men and ladies football action, as well as the final of our hurling league. All of this will be happening this Saturday, the 9th of April at the Concordia Stinger Dome, starting at 6pm.
First up, we have the Verdun Vikings taking on Concordia Warriors. Neither team can make the finals at this stage making this, on paper at least, a bit of a dead rubber. But that’s on paper, on the pitch is a different story. Looking to avoid a whitewash of a season, the Vikings will be coming out all guns blazing, eager to use this performance as a springboard for the summer season. The Warriors will be looking to bounce back from being denied a spot in the finals with a comprehensive victory over the Vikings, and to build on the confidence that result would bring. This should be a hard-fought affair and runs the very real risk of overshadowing next week’s final.
The middle fixture is Men’s football, where the Verdun Vikings have it all to do against current finalists the Griffintown Gaels. The task is simple, but that doesn’t mean it’ll be easy. The Vikings need to win here by nine points or more to go through to the finals next week, where they’ll meet the Gaels again. Anything less will see them on the sidelines with the Concordia Warriors, as the Goose Village Blackrocks advance instead. The Gaels will be looking to do some game management in this one, trying to balance the winning mentality that saw them be the first team to book their spot in the finals with keeping those legs fresh for when it really counts.
This game would be certain to be a fireworks show all of its own, and that’s before we entertain the possibility of this being a dry run of next week’s final.
Finally, the inaugural hurling season comes to a close with the Hurling finals. PSC Cu Chulainn and N.D.G. Na Fianna Rouges will line out for the final time this winter. So far, the traffic has been all PSC’s way, but that won’t matter here. Its winner takes all in this game, so the Rouges will be looking to dig deep and show the world what they’re made of. PSC will be looking to continue their winning ways, and to put on a performance that would equal the ones that brought them to this point. This game should be a fantastic spectacle, and the last chance to catch superleague hurling until the summer, so we look forward to seeing you all there.
