Week twelve of the superleague is here! With the summer coming to a close it’s time for a rare double gameweek. First, we have ladies’ football, as the Goose Village Blackrocks continue their late push for a place in the finals, and then we have the last men’s superleague game of the season, where the Vikings will attempt to go out on a high note.
Having won their last game the ladies’ Blackrocks are now within touching distance of a place in the final. A win here would see them leapfrog the Verdun Vikings and finish the season in second. But while the maths is easy, the task is hard. Standing in their way are an imperious Griffintown Gaels side that have been unbeaten all summer. A victory here would send the Blackrocks to the finals on the front foot, whereas the Gaels would love nothing more than to head to the finals with such an impressive run of form behind them. This promises to be a match to remember, as neither side will be willing to give an inch!
Our second game of the night is a bit of a dead rubber but knowing these sides it’ll be as fiercely contested as any final. While they cannot make this year’s finals, there’s still a chance to ruin the Blackrocks day, and that’s something the Vikings will grab with both hands. It’s been a season of near misses for the Vikings, so they’ll want to make this one count. Meanwhile, with one eye on the finals, the Blackrocks will be trying to balance time management for their players, with their desire to come into the big game on the back of a decisive victory. A delicate act, but one this side are more than capable of.
