Recap

On a hot and humid evening with temperatures more accustomed to the tropics the ladies Summer
Superleague commenced with the Griffintown Gaels taking on the Verdun Vikings.
With both teams limited in substitutes due to St Jean Babtiste weekend it was shaping up for an old
cliché- “let the ball do the work” kind of game.
Impressive fitness levels were on display though as both sides attacked with gusto. Strong defending by
the Vikings in the form of captain Shannon Pine and Ariane Jodoin kept the Gaels attacking style at bay,
but it was only a matter of time due to relentless pressure that we would see the net bulge. Goals from
Annie Gaumond and Laura Brody helping the Gaels to a comfortable half time lead.
The second half started brightly with both teams now having reinforcements and the Vikings
determined to show the fans what they are capable of with fine scores from Veronique Buisson, Rachel
Sparks and Claire Lubell.
But the Gaels, sensing the tide turning found another gear and points from Athenia Alvarez Feros,
Mariette Parrod and Evelyn Moisan made sure the win was going to the ladies in blue and green.
Final score Griffintown Gaels 5-15 Verdun Vikings 1-8
