Winter Superleague 2022 Finals Results

This week was our final week in the Concordia stringer dome as the men’s, ladies’, and camogie finals all played out.
The first final was the ladies’ football final, where the Goose Village Blackrocks and the Concordia Warriors lined out for what proved to be a well fought final. The first half was a mostly even affair, with the Blackrocks ahead by five points, and having led for the majority of the half. The Blackrocks turned up the pressure in the second half, and it proved to be too much for the Warriors. As they wilted the Rocks took full advantage and doubled their halftime lead to claim the 2022 winter superleague trophy in a convincing fashion.
The second match was the men’s football final, where the Goose Village Blackrocks met the Griffintown Gaels in a game that was balanced on a knifes edge right until the very end. Both sides enjoyed periods of sustained pressure and the Geals took a narrow one point lead into the second half. The second half was more of the same and something had to give. A momentary lapse of concentration on the Gaels part allowed the Rocks to snatch a vital goal, and with it, the 2022 winter superleague trophy by a single point.
Our final game was the inaugural camogie finals, where PSC Cu Chulainn were looking to put the breaks on a rampaging N.D.G. Na Fianna Rouges team. And they succeeded in holding the Rouge in place to begin with. But once the PSC forwards started to slip from their shackles there was no stopping them, and soon they put the game beyond reach. N.D.G. Na Fianna Rouges have put on a masterclass of camogie and while an upset would have made for a good story, theirs being the first name on the new camogie superleague trophy is well deserved.

MVPs:
Ladies’ Football: Audrey Mathieu (Rocks), Téa Jovanovic (Warriors)
Men’s Football: Marty lawless (Rocks), Davy Healy (Gaels)
Hurling: Saoirse Griffin (PSC), Iliana Loupessis (Na Fianna)

Winter Superleague 2022 Finals

And here we are.
After six weeks of game the shortened 2022 Winter Superleague season is coming to a close, as we have our three remaining finals this Saturday the 16th of April, starting at 6pm in the Concordia Stinger dome.
Our first game is the ladies’ football final, where it’s the Goose Village Blackrocks and the Concordia Warriors vying for top honours. These teams tied when they last met this winter, and since then they’ve been keeping pace with each other. Right now, the Warriors sit on top of the table by virtue of score difference and it’s a difference of a single point. So, this fixture is far too close to call, and all signs point towards a fantastic match
Our second game is the men’s football final where it’s the Goose Village Blackrocks and the Griffintown Gaels duking it out. These side met in the opening fixture of the men’s league and the Gaels took a six-point victory there, and they’ve recently stymied the ambitions of the Vikings to make the final, and handily dispatched the warriors, so they’ll feel that they have the form coming into this fixture to take the title for themselves. The Rocks haven’t been slacking either and since that opening defeat have gone on a run of fine form that saw them equal the Gaels performance against the warriors and managed to do what the Gaels couldn’t – beat the Vikings. And that is the case the Rocks camp will be making among themselves for why they are the favourites here.
Regardless, it’s been a league full of tense and thrilling fixtures, and this promises to continue that fine tradition
And finally, we will have the first ever superleague Camogie finals – the N.D.G. Na Fianna Rouges vs PSC Cu Chulainn. It’s been one way traffic so far, the Rouges have had two comprehensive wins under their belt, while PSC are still searching for their first. But that doesn’t matter now, this is a winner takes all final, and if the Cus can find the right shape so that they finally click the Na Fianna will have one hell of a fight on their hands.

Winter Superleague 2022: Week Six Results

Week six saw the last games of the regular season play out, along with our very first Hurling final.
First up we had ladies’ football, with the Verdun Vikings facing off against the Concordia Warriors. While this was a dead rubber, the Vikings couldn’t make the finals and the Warriors were already secure, that didn’t dull the intensity of the game in the slightest, with a single point separating the sides at half time, in the second half the game began to slip away from the Vikings, as the Warriors started to turn the screws before finally running out winners by twenty-six points.
Next we had a decisive game in the Men’s football, where the Verdun Vikings needed to win by nine points of more against confirmed finalists, the Griffintown Gaels. Despite a strong start, the Gael and Vikings settled into slugging it out, trading blow for blow and by halftime while the Vikings led, they were only up by two points. As the game moved on the Vikings never really looked like being able to extend that lead, and eventually surrendered it just before the end of the game, with a last-play-of-the-match point from the Vikings sparing their blushes and ending the game as a tie. So, the Blackrocks will join the Gaels in the finals, and this game will have given them both the unenviable task of having a lot to live up to, at least in terms of entertainment.
And finally we have the Hurling finals. In a single, winner takes all, match the scene was set for an upset as Na Fianna Rouges, who have not been able to find an answer to an imperious PSC Cu Chulainn side all season, started strong. It wasn’t to be though, after weather an initial bout of pressure, PSC slotted back into the familiar rhythm that’s come to define how they play and again Na Fianna could find no response. Despite a wobbly five minutes at the start of the second half where Na Fianna grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck, it was always the Cus game to lose, and they did not oblige, finishing as comfortable winners.
And with that we’re moving into the finals week, where we will see the Men’s, Ladies’, and Camogie finals, we hope to see you there.
